Don't do DevOps for the Sake of it
DevOps advantages are not a secret. Time to production decreases. Software stability and quality improves. A responsive culture that incorporates feedback develops. Teams that adopt DevOps get more done.
None of these are reasons to do DevOps though. There is only one reason: adopt DevOps IF AND ONLY IF it brings a business benefit.
On the downside DevOps is easy to get wrong -- and, when done wrongly, DevOps can pull the rug out of under a good business operation.
Instead, involve the business from the get-go. Make sure whoever is responsible for Risk is included. There is no point putting together agile processes if they bypass crucial compliance or security controls.
And finally, have a business goal as your DevOps goal – not only technical milestones.
